Mission

The mission of the Mustard Seed Furniture Bank of Fort Wayne, Inc. is provide household furnishings to families and individuals as they rebuild their lives after suffering disaster, personal tragedy or other misfortunes.

History

Since our inception in 2002, the Mustard Seed Furniture Bank has been touching lives in Northeast Indiana. Before this time our neighbors who were struggling were sleeping and eating their meals on the floor, using a box for a table, and living day by day in a barren house or apartment. A group of business professionals took a concept developed in other parts of the country and rolled it out in Fort Wayne, creating the first furniture bank in Indiana.

Purpose

Mustard Seed Furniture Bank’s programs help people when they are struggling and think that their situation could not get any worse. They have no dinnerware, a couple of old towels, a small pan, some boxes and old milk crates, and maybe a blanket on the floor.

We work with staff and volunteers from area social-service agencies, faith-based groups, and churches and schools who refer clients to our agency for assistance. Through one short visit clients are able to grow more self-sufficient, increase their level of self-esteem and have long-term stability in their home.

Simply put, we take items that are unwanted along with basic furniture items that still have life to share and provide them to those who desperately need to make their barren house or apartment into a comfortable and welcoming home.
